Are you an experienced Training Manager who knows how to turn learning into measurable business impact? Are you looking for a role where you can shape learning, performance, and compliance across a growing international insurance business? If so please read on.

Diaspora Insurance is looking for a practical, hands-on learning and development professional to design, deliver, and embed training across our growing multi-country business.

This is an exciting opportunity to build training programmes that help people perform with confidence, stay compliant, and deliver outstanding service to diaspora customers across different markets.

About Diaspora Insurance

Diaspora Insurance provides specialist and bespoke insurance solutions for transnational citizens, expatriates, and diasporan communities.

We now insure 43 African nationalities across key markets including the United Kingdom, USA, Europe, and Australia. As an innovative and rapidly growing company, we are committed to protecting families, supporting communities, and delivering insurance solutions that meet the needs of customers living across borders.

Why this role matters

As Training Manager, you will play a central role in helping our people succeed.

You will design and deliver learning that gives staff the technical, regulatory, product, sales, and customer service skills they need to support our Growth, Protect, Deliver mandate.

From onboarding new starters to developing sales capability, regulatory competence, product knowledge, and operational confidence, your work will directly influence performance, customer experience, compliance, and business growth.

What you’ll be doing

Learning strategy and delivery

  • You will create and deliver an annual learning and development plan aligned to business goals, regulatory changes, and skill gaps identified through performance reviews.
  • You will design onboarding programmes for new starters, covering company values, products, systems, compliance, and customer expectations.
  • You will also develop targeted programmes for Sales and Distribution teams, including consultative selling, objection handling, diaspora customer needs, and cross-border sales compliance.
  • For technical teams, including Underwriting, Claims, Customer Service, and Operations, you will deliver practical training on processes, systems, product updates, and service standards.

Regulatory and compliance training

  • You will own key compliance training across the business, including SMCR, AML, Data Protection, Consumer Duty, and conduct training for relevant staff groups.
  • You will maintain accurate training records for SMCR accountability and FCA audit purposes, working closely with Compliance and the MLRO to update content when regulations change.

Product and systems training

  • You will translate product changes, system upgrades, and process updates into clear, simple, and practical training for frontline and operational teams.
  • You will run train-the-trainer sessions for Business Development Managers and Team Leads so learning can be cascaded locally and consistently across different markets.
  • You will also create e-learning, job aids, and microlearning content to support staff working across different time zones.

Measurement and continuous improvement

  • You will define and monitor training effectiveness KPIs, including pass rates, time-to-competency, sales conversion after training, complaint reduction, and learner feedback.
  • You will use training data to improve content, prove return on investment, and provide clear reports to MANCO monthly and EXCO quarterly on learning impact and budget use.

Stakeholder management

  • You will work closely with Heads of Sales, Operations, Claims, HR, Compliance, Underwriting, IT, and Business Development Managers to identify capability needs and deliver relevant training solutions.
  • You will also manage external training providers, negotiate contracts, and source specialist content where required.

What we’re looking for

You will need:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in L&D or training, ideally within insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry
  • Proven experience designing and delivering sales and compliance training programmes
  • Experience working across multiple geographies and time zones, which would be highly desirable
  • Familiarity with FCA and SMCR requirements, which would be a strong advantage
  • Strong instructional design and facilitation skills, both virtual and in person
  • Understanding of insurance products, underwriting, claims, sales, and customer service processes
  • Confidence using LMS platforms, e-learning tools such as Articulate or Canvas, and Microsoft Office
  • Strong data skills, with the ability to use training metrics to prove impact and ROI
  • Excellent communication skills, especially with multicultural and international audiences

The kind of person who will thrive here:

  • You will be practical, commercial, and confident working close to the business.
  • You will not just deliver training for the sake of it. You will understand how learning improves performance, reduces risk, strengthens customer outcomes, and supports business growth.
  • You will be comfortable challenging senior leaders on capability gaps, working with confidential information, and adapting your approach for different teams, countries, and cultures.

What success looks like in your first 12 months

In your first year, you will help us achieve:

  • 100% of new hires completing onboarding within two weeks of joining
  • 90%+ pass rate on regulatory training
  • Zero overdue SMCR training records
  • Measurable improvement in sales conversion and NPS in trained teams
  • 25% reduction in time-to-competency for claims and sales staff
  • Benefits
  • Salary of £30,000 – £33,000 per annum
  • Company pension scheme
  • Company funeral expense scheme
  • Paid annual leave
  • Opportunity to shape learning and development across a growing international insurance business
  • Flexible location, with Birmingham preferred
  • Travel to key markets, approximately 20–30% of the time
