French Private Clients

The Private Client Partner at gunnercooke LLP, advises and assists private individuals and professionals who hold, acquire or sell assets in France and who spend time in or have family connections with France. They require an expert, single point of contact, to provide legal advice and assistance on French law and to help them navigate property issues, organise estate planning measures and generally deal with various aspects of holding assets in France.

Summary of Role

They are looking for an organised and passionate diplômé (e) notaire with two to four years' experience in France within a notarial practice. You will be managing a varied caseload that will encompass a broad range of French property transactions and private client matters subject to French law in an international context including Wills, Trusts and Probate and Estate Planning.

You must be fluent in both French and English – this requirement is non-negotiable.

Responsibilities

  • take clients’ instructions
  •  advise clients on the law and legal issues relating to their case
  • draft documents, letters and contracts tailored to the clients' individual needs
  • negotiate with clients and other professionals to secure agreed objectives
  • research and analyse documents and case law to ensure the accuracy of advice and procedure
  • correspond with clients and other parties including solicitors, notaires, avocats, tax authorities and other public and private organisations
  • act on behalf of clients in disputes and instruct litigation lawyers to appear in Court for clients
  • supervise and delegate work to trainee solicitors, paralegals and legal secretaries as appropriate
  • carry out administrative duties, e.g. completing time sheets so that charges for work can be calculated and billing clients for work done on their behalf
  • keep up to date with changes and developments in the law by reading journals and law reports.
